{"id":1896703,"date":"2019-10-18T13:19:54","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T17:19:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.theeventscalendar.com\/knowledgebase\/promoter-setup-guide\/"},"modified":"2023-08-22T10:40:35","modified_gmt":"2023-08-22T14:40:35","slug":"promoter-setup-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.theeventscalendar.com\/knowledgebase\/promoter-setup-guide\/","title":{"rendered":"Promoter Basics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Skipping right to the heart of things, here&#8217;s a checklist to get you started with Promoter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log in to Promoter here: <a href=\"https:\/\/promoter.theeventscalendar.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/promoter.theeventscalendar.com\/login<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoter\u00a0requires an environment that is on the web (local installs will not work)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoter requires that all traffic related to your domain name uses https (SSL certificate required)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoter requires the user ID tied to the Promoter license to have the <code>read_private_posts<\/code> capability in WordPress (Admin, Editor or custom role). This is especially important if you are using a plugin that manages permissions\/capabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoter requires that you have at least the free <a href=\"https:\/\/theeventscalendar.com\/products\/wordpress-events-calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Events Calendar<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/theeventscalendar.com\/product\/wordpress-event-tickets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Event Tickets<\/a> plugins installed. It also works great with <a href=\"https:\/\/theeventscalendar.com\/product\/wordpress-event-tickets-plus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Event Tickets Plus<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoter does not work with <a href=\"https:\/\/theeventscalendar.com\/product\/wordpress-eventbrite-tickets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eventbrite Tickets<\/a> for now.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certain domain and subdomain names will not allow you to run Promoter (for technical reasons). Please make sure that your\u00a0site is not using any of the following:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The presence of &#8220;staging&#8221; in the domain or subdomain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The presence of &#8220;dev&#8221; in the domain or subdomain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The presence of &#8220;test&#8221; in the domain or subdomain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>myftpupload domains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>wpengine domains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mybluehost domains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dreamhosters domains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lightningbasehosted&nbsp;domains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your test site is using a domain name that is <a href=\"\/knowledgebase\/k\/using-one-license-for-live-and-dev-sites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">white-listed<\/a> for testing \/ development purposes <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once a Promoter license is tied to a website (e.g.: a test one), it cannot be simply swapped to another website. If you have used the license on a site and wish to transfer it to a different website, please contact our <a href=\"https:\/\/support.theeventscalendar.com\/submit_ticket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">help desk<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoter works on WordPress sites within a sub-folder, such as https:\/\/www.domain.com\/subfolder\/. Please reach out to our support team to help you complete the installation correctly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoter currently does not work on multi-site WordPress installations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoter does not officially support WPML.
