From wp-admin, go to <strong>Tools &gt; Export<\/strong>, then choose to export \u201cAll Content,\u201d as shown in the following screenshot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.theeventscalendar.com\/kb\/uploads\/2018\/11\/B.1_native_export.png\" alt=\"WordPress native content export function\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select <i>Download Export File.<\/i>&nbsp; Save this XML file to your computer.&nbsp; It is a backup of the site content.&nbsp;&nbsp;If you ever need to restore any of your site\u2019s content, you can simply import that XML file back into your website using the <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/wordpress-importer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">free official WordPress Importer plugin<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"full\">Full Site Backup (Recommended)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Using WordPress\u2019 built-in export tool is a quick, efficient method for backing up your site content, but it doesn\u2019t back up the rest of your site. A truly complete backup will save your content and all of your images, user info, plugins, themes, options configurations, and other site data that is just as important as the content itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several options to make a complete site backup:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"host\">Web Host<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Many web hosts offer backup services\u2014simply drop customer support a line and ask if they can do a full database dump for you. Many will happily follow through in no time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"WP\">WordPress Plugins and Services<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many free and premium plugins you can use to get free backups for your site, and some even have paid services that will perform updates automatically in the background. Examples of the former can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/tags\/backup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the WordPress.org plugins repository<\/a>, while examples of the latter include <a href=\"https:\/\/vaultpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VaultPress<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/updraftplus.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UpdraftPlus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/backwpup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BackWPup<\/a>, and many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"manual\">Manual Database Export<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re comfortable taking the reins yourself, you can use the WordPress Codex\u2019s excellent guide on <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/article\/backing-up-your-database\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">manually backing up your database<\/a> to download your own copy of your site\u2019s data and content.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Before updating any plugin, theme, or WordPress itself on your site, it\u2019s important to always make a site backup.
