It&#8217;s still possible to update your plugins manually. In this tutorial, we&#8217;ll walk through the steps required to manually update our free and premium plugins using two different methods: <strong>through the WordPress Dashboard<\/strong> and<strong>\u00a0via FTP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-background\" style=\"color:#141827;background-color:var(--global-palette8)\">\ud83d\udc4b This tutorial will work with any of our plugins as long as you change the applicable directory paths accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"backup-recommended\">Backup, backup, backup!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although manually updating the plugins should still keep all of your data (events, settings, etc.) intact, it&#8217;s <strong>always<\/strong> a smart idea to back up your data and files before performing any operation like this. &nbsp;<strong>We recommend that all users perform site backups before manually updating their plugins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not sure how to do this? &nbsp;Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.theeventscalendar.com\/knowledgebase\/k\/creating-site-backups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our Knowledgebase article<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"downloading-the-plugin\">Downloading the new version<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing you&#8217;ll need to do is download a ZIP file of the plugin that you&#8217;re looking to update. Locate the plugin version that you want to install and click the <strong>Download<\/strong> link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.theeventscalendar.com\/kb\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-15-at-6.02.34-PM.png\" alt=\"KB-Downloads\" class=\"wp-image-1948298\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-uploading-the-new-version\">Uploading the new version<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve downloaded the new version of the plugin, you&#8217;re ready to replace the old plugin file with the new one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-method-2-replacing-the-plugin-files-via-the-wordpress-dashboard\">Method 2: Replacing the plugin files via the WordPress dashboard<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-background\" style=\"color:#141827;background-color:var(--global-palette8)\">\ud83d\udc4b When downloading ZIP files, some browsers (such as Safari) will decompress (or \u201cunzip\u201d) the file into a folder. For uploading to WordPress through the Dashboard, plugin files must be in the zipped format.
